University of Bedfordshire New £40m STEM Building
Bedfordshire University’s new £40M new STEM building which is located at the Luton campus is devoted to providing both teaching and research across the STEM subjects of Science, Technology and Mathematics.
The new four-storey building offers 6000m2 of state of the art teaching and laboratory areas allowing the University to provide a wide range of new science courses which include subjects such as Nutrition, Pharmacy, Physics, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mechanical Engineering and Geology.
RG Carters were the appointed Main contractor and InterFocus were awarded the contract to manufacture and install new laboratory furniture, IT suites and Engineering workstations.
Our design brief was to provide modern durable work areas, using a wide range of materials suitable for the task. For the laboratories Trespa Toplab Plus was chosen to provide the ultimate protection in chemical resistance, for the engineering areas oiled IROKO wood worktops were chosen and for the IT areas our standard melamine Kronoswiss laminate.
Heavy duty framework was installed and selected from our i-system range of frame systems using 50x30x2mm ERW steel tube with a tough powder coated finish. The under-bench furniture and panels were produced in Kronoswiss Anthracite and incorporated soft close hinges and drawers.
Main Scope of Works
InterFocus’s scope of works was to provide cutting edge, flexible computer laboratories and workshops for automotive engineering, robotics and cyber security, alongside new state of the art laboratory facilities.
